6 Week Series
This class will introduce basic ballet technique and also incorporate movement from other styles such as jazz and modern. All experience levels are welcome, new dancers are especially encouraged to attend! The goal of this class is to introduce basic dance technique, develop comfort with various kinds of movement, and provide a safe, fun atmosphere for adult dancers to grow and learn. Dance can improve flexibility, balance, fitness, and general awesomeness (just to name a few).
Please wear clothing that is comfortable to move in – leggings and a tank top or t-shirt would be great.
Katie Basham, a resident of Berea for nearly 20 years, spent most of her childhood taking all the classes (ballet, tap, jazz) at her local dance studio. She began teaching children’s and teen dance classes in high school, as a way to pay for her own lessons. While attending Berea College, she was introduced to modern dance and enjoyed participating in the annual dance concert, Kinetic Expressions, as both a dancer and a choreographer. In recent years, she has choreographed musicals for the Berea College Theatre Laboratory (Rocky Horror Show, Cabaret, and Jesus Christ Superstar), and has also enjoyed recently returning to Kinetic Expressions as a dancer with other faculty and staff dancers.
Thursdays from 7:00-8:15pm starting May 31.
